Bulletin Board: Four Rivers boys, girls ultimate finish in second at Div. 1 state championship

The Four Rivers girls ultimate team came up just short of a state championship on Sunday.
The Otters competed in the Division 1 State Tournament at the Oxbow Marina in Northampton over the weekend and went 3-0 in pool play on Saturday.
In the knockout rounds on Sunday, Four Rivers opened with a 10-6 win over Lincoln-Sudbury in the quarterfinals and defeated Lexington, 9-8, in the semifinals to reach the championship game where it squared off with fellow-unbeaten Amherst.
Four Rivers was unable to get past the Hurricanes in the finals, falling 13-6.
In pool play, the Otters beat Northampton (10-6), Somerville (12-5) and Newton North (13-4).
It was a successful weekend for the Four Rivers boys as well, as the Otters reached the championship game.
Four Rivers went 3-0 in pool play with wins over Natick (11-3), Masco (11-1) and Lincoln-Sudbury (11-3) to enter the knockout stage unbeaten. The Otters beat Amhest in the quarterfinals (13-5) and Lexington in the semifinals (13-10) but were unable to get past unbeaten Arlington in the title game, Arlington winning 13-8.
It’s been great seasons for both teams, Terry Plotkin leading the Four Rivers boys to a record of 26-6 and Julia Fay leading the Otter girls to a record of 27-3. The Four Rivers girls will be traveling to Allentown, Pa. on June 13-14 for the High School National Invitational.

Three players from each team — Cooper Whitney, Kolin Broderick and Russell Herbert from the boys team, Tirz Skelton, Seneca Smith and Sylvia Guillaume from the girls team — were selected for the Massachusetts All-State game on June 6 at Hormel Stadium in Medford.

The GMLB AAA All-Star game took place on Sunday, with the NL earning a 9-7 win over the AL.
Laurence Shields, Yusef Bensen, Ellis Hayman and Reed Williams had multiple hits while Hunter Wilkins and Wyatt Wilkins played well in the field for the NL.
Brock Puchalski knocked two hits, Lew Graves and Joseph Gardner each singled while Brody Suhl singled and pitched for the AL.
Liberty Tax 14, Denny’s Pantry 6 — Theo Schulte cracked three hits, Jordan Hager had tow hits while Noah Marguet homered in Liberty’s win Saturday.
Vinnie Toothaker, JJ Grader and Carson White hit safely in the loss.
Maniatty’s 5, Smitty’s 0 — Jackson Puchalski, Fisher Williams and Preson Charboneau singled and Toby Campbell pitched in Maniatty’s win Saturday.
Paul Budrawich had two hits, Owen Castine singled and Jordan Terrillion pitched in and didn’t give a run in the loss.

Brady Booska and Andy Lesenski shot the low score of 125 in the Lebert Memorial Tournament at Country Club of Greenfield Sunday.
Jamie Crocker and Justin McCloud took second (141). Douglas Farrick and Ike Purington (143) and Bill Young and Pat Grogan (146) led the White Tee Flight, Joe Wisneski and Tim Gochinski (149) and Wes Cornelison and Jacob Cornelison (153) led the Combo Tee Flight, Valerie Esquer and Raye Young (151) and Nancy Robie and Ellen Bitzer (167) led the Women’s Flight.
In net scoring Mike Archer and Dylan Archer (133) led the Blue Tee Flight, Gary Blanchette and Mark Jackson (133) led the White Tee Flight, Terry Sinclair and Tom Smith (130) topped the Combo Tee Flight while Corrine Sysun and Jess Lapachinski (130) led the Women’s Flight.
