ORANGE — An Orange man is being held without bail after allegedly confessing to stabbing his girlfriend during an argument.
Larry J. Bezio Jr., 38, pleaded not guilty in Orange District Court on Monday to single counts of armed assault to murder, assault and battery on a family or household member, and aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Judge Laurie MacLeod has ordered Bezio to appear in court for a pre-trial hearing on July 15.
According to a report written by Orange Police Officer Sydney Richardson, the Shelburne Control Dispatch Center received a 911 call with an open line, mapping in the area of 150 Pleasant St., at 8:27 p.m. on Saturday. The dispatcher reported hearing a male voice on the open line but could not determine what was being said.
Richardson and Officer Benjamin Kovacevic responded to 150 Pleasant St. The officers made contact with a woman who said she had two people — later identified as Bezio and Bezio’s girlfriend — spending the night above the garage in a space set up like a small apartment.
Upon entering the apartment, officers reportedly found Bezio lying awake alone in bed and found a woman bleeding in a separate bedroom. According to the police report, Bezio allegedly said the woman needed help because he had stabbed her, a statement he reiterated after Kovacevic asked him to repeat what he had said.
“Officer Kovacevic then ordered Bezio to the ground and he was handcuffed by Officer Richardson,” the report states.
The officers administered medical aid to the woman and, while doing so, Richardson allegedly saw a bloody knife. The knife reportedly appeared to be a large, sharp kitchen knife.
The victim was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, where the attending trauma physician reportedly said the woman had a roughly 1-centimeter stab wound to her right pectoral muscle.

Bezio was taken to the Orange Police Station, where he waived his Miranda rights and agreed to speak with state troopers who had arrived. He reportedly told authorities that for the past four months, he had been in an intimate relationship with the victim, who he claimed had been unfaithful to him when he was hospitalized for a medical condition.
Bezio said he and the victim had been drinking alcohol, and had also consumed some THC edibles, when an argument ensued. Bezio allegedly said that he punched the victim in the head and went downstairs to the kitchen before returning upstairs. According to Richardson’s report, he said he didn’t specifically remember getting the knife from the kitchen but he believes that is where he got it. He told police he remembered stabbing the victim, but did not know where he stabbed her or how many times.
Bezio allegedly told police that he then called 911 and that he immediately regretted his actions.
