ATHOL – Uniquely Quabbin, a locally-produced magazine started in 2016 which features local artists, photographers and writers, is celebrating the publication of its 25th issue.

To mark the milestone, an exhibition of art and photography by the magazine’s contributors is now on display at Athol Public Library through Aug. 1. A reception for the exhibit will be held at the library on Tuesday, May 21, from 5-8 p.m.

According to an announcement for the exhibit, Uniquely Quabbin “includes articles, photographs, and art relating to Quabbin Reservoir; the lost towns of Dana, Enfield, Greenwich and Prescott drowned to create the reservoir; and the 25 towns surrounding the reservoir.”

Marcia Gagliardi of Haley’s Publishing, which produces Uniquely Quabbin, said many of those who have had their talents showcased in the magazine were happy to submit pieces for the exhibition.

“Haley’s used to have a gallery,” she said. “We ran an art gallery here for about 15 years. We just put out a call to the many contributors of photography and art and many responded, and last week the show was hung, and we’re having a reception on Tuesday night.”

The art, said Gagliardi, will be for sale, with 30% of the proceeds going to the magazine and 10% to the library, with the rest going to the artists.

According to the release, participating artists will include David Brothers, Linda Ruel Flynn and Robert Osborne, all of Athol; Leverett artist Louise Minks; Gillian Haven of Pelham; Emily Boughton, Susan Marshall and Amber Robidoux, all of Orange; Petersham residents Candace Anderson, Ken Levine and Abigail Rorer; Sonja Vaccari of Royalston, and Elizabeth Callahan of Rutland.

Participating photographers include Athol’s David Brothers, Rick Flematti, James Flynn and Mitch Grosky; Sue Cloutier and Dale Monette of New Salem, and John Burk of Petersham.

Music will be provided by Myra MacLeod of Athol, a teacher of stringed instruments. Refreshment trays will be furnished by the Quabbin Harvest Coop of Orange.

Uniquely Quabbin, which publishes three times per year – in January, May and September – can be found at local libraries, historical societies and commercial outlets in the Quabbin region. It is a free magazine and receives support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, as well as the cultural councils of Athol, Barre, Pelham, Petersham, Phillipston, Shutesbury, Royalston, Rutland, Ware, Warwick, Wendell and West Brookfield.

People are welcome to support the exhibition through monetary contributions of various levels, said Gagliardi. Anyone wishing to support publication of the magazine may send their tax-exempt contributions to Uniquely Quabbin, c/o Haley’s, 488 South Main Street, Athol, MA 01331.

Categories for monetary contributions include Chickadee, $25; Cardinal, $50; Bluebird, $75; and Redwing Blackbird, $100. A list of contributors will appear in the magazine’s September issue. The magazine and exhibition, she said, are sponsored by the Athol Historical Society, Haley’s and the North Quabbin Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center.
