PHILLIPSTON – The town’s Historical Society will honor the late Opal Clark with an exhibit illustrating her many contributions to the town over the years.

The event, dubbed Opal Clark Day at the Phillipston Historical Society, will take place at the society’s headquarters at 80 State Road/Route 2A beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

“The inside exhibits have pictures of Opal doing a number of things,” said curator Jane French.

In addition to serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, Clark taught elementary school in both Fitchburg and Athol, was a member of the New England Math League, and drove a bus for 12 years.

Clark also served on Phillipston’s Selectboard for 15 years, from 1989 to 2004, and was a member of the Capital Planning Committee for 16 years. For 15 years, she was a police matron.

Opal Clark passed away on Jan. 4 of this year at the age of 94.

In addition to the indoor exhibit, The Department of Public Works and the Fire Department will both have equipment on hand, as will the Police Department, which is bringing its new cruiser to the event.
