TURNERS FALLS — Lilly Ross struck out four and allowed just one hit in the circle for the Franklin Tech softball team on Wednesday. The left-hander earned the win in four innings of work as the Eagles blanked Mahar, 12-0, in a five-inning Franklin County League East contest at Nancy Gifford Field.

Brayleigh Burgh tossed a scoreless fifth inning for Franklin Tech (13-1), which then scored twice in the home half of the inning to secure the run-ruled victory.

Kylee Gamache had two hits and two RBIs for the Eagles, while Kait Trudeau doubled and drove in a pair. Shelby O’Leary also recorded two RBIs in the win, and Alison George had a hit and an RBI.

The Eagles now turn their attention to a huge game Thursday night at Greenfield. The teams will meet at Vets Field at 6 p.m.

Frontier 11, Mount Greylock 7 — The Redhawks led 9-2 into the fifth inning before the Mounties rallied and made things interesting. 

Visiting Greylock pulled within 9-7 in the sixth before Frontier tacked on a pair of insurance runs and held on for a Franklin County League West win at Herlihy Field in Whately.

Frontier’s Whitney Campbell made a spectacular catch on a hard hit line drive in the seventh inning to end the game.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Raine Wonsey (2-for-2, 4 RBIs) slammed a bases-loaded triple to give the Redhawks the lead for good. An RBI ground out by Abby Schreiber and a Skyler Steele (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) single to score Delaney Fifield made it 6-1, before Wonsey, Steele (double) and Liv Machon (3-for-4) drove in runs in the third to make it 9-2.

Fifield was responsible for two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth when she tripled, scoring Ashley Taylor, then later scored on a passed ball. 

Taylor (6 ER, 1 BB, 2Ks) pitched seven innings for the Redhawks, which travel to Wahconah on Thursday.

Mohawk Trail 17, Northampton 5 — The Warriors got back to  the .500 mark on the season thanks to a convincing Franklin County League East victory in Buckland on Wednesday.

Kaylin Sumner struck out four in the pitching circle for Mohawk Trail (6-6), which won its second game in a row. Sumner also singled at the plate.

Other offensive contributors for the Warriors included Abi Dobias (two hits), Addie Loomis (two triples), Sophia Goodnow (hit), Abby Moffatt (hit), Shelby Collier (two hits), Rachel Pease (triple) and Maddie Cosentino (two hits).

Mohawk Trail scored four runs in the first and seven in the second to set the tone. The club hosts Athol on Thursday in a doubleheader which begins with the continuation of a suspended game from earlier this spring at  2:30 p.m.

Boys volleyball

Granby 3, Athol 0 – The host Rams notched a sweep of the Bears on Wednesday night.

Granby won via 25-14, 25-12, 25-11 scores.

Baseball

Ware 6, Turners 1 — Nate Kaczuwka struck out six in six innings for Ware, limiting the Thunder to just three hits and one run on Wednesday at the Bourdeau Fields Complex in Turners Falls.

Joey Mosca took the loss for Turners, striking out four in 5⅓ innings while allowing six hits and six runs. Mosca also had two hits at the plate.

Deven Sloan drove in Turners’ lone run, plating Cam Burnett in the bottom of the seventh.

Softball

Turners 3, Wahconah 1 — The Thunder broke through with two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to come away with a Franklin County League West victory over the Warriors at Gary Mullins Field Tuesday. 

Janelle Massey smashed a hit up the middle, Madisyn Dietz followed with a hit before Ella Kolodziej tripled to center to drive both in and give Turners the lead in the fifth. Mia Marigliano singled and Holly Myers later hit a sacrifice fly to score her in the sixth. 

Madi Liimatainen allowed three hits and struck out 11 in the circle for the Thunder. 

Pioneer 12, SICS 11 — Kelly Baird cracked a double and scored on a passed ball to propel the Panthers to a victory over the Bulldogs in Northfield Tuesday. 

Avery Johnson blasted a triple, a single and drove in two runs, Laylah Goulston doubled and singled, Jacobia Tyminski knocked two hits and drove in a run, Allie Clary recorded three hits and an RIB, Baird added two singles and drove in two runs while striking out eight in the circle in the win.

Softball

Greenfield 4, Hampshire 3 (10) — Ainslee Flynn came through in the clutch for the Greenfield softball team Monday night.

Greenfield and Hampshire Regional were tied 3-3 after seven innings and that score held into the 10th. Anna Bucala walked for the Green Wave and Flynn blasted a line drive to the wall in right center to drive Bucala in, lifting Greenfield to a 4-3 walk-off win at Vets Field. The Wave secured a regular season sweep of Hampshire after winning on the road in Westhampton last week.

The Raiders held a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, but Greenfield stormed back to tie the game. MacKenzie Paulin and Gloria McDonald started the rally with singles before Ivy Rae grounded out to score Paulin and cut the lead to 3-2. Ellis Benitez came to the plate and singled up the middle to score McDonald and send play to extras. 

Carly Blanchard grounded out in the third to score Bucala and give the Green Wave a 1-0 lead. CC Thayer hit a two-run home run in the fifth that helped give Hampshire its 3-1 lead. 

Paulin pitched all 10 innings for Greenfield, striking out eight and scattering seven hits.
