Track & Field: Greenfield’s Jack Laurie, Frontier’s Julian Adams, Mohawk Trail’s Zephyr Jetzon win events during Day 1 of MSTCA West Heptathlon/Decathlon

The opening day of the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association (MSTCA) West Heptathlon and Decathlon got underway on Monday at Frontier Regional School in South Deerfield. The heptathlon and decathlon are combined events in track and field where athletes compete in multiple disciplines. The heptathlon is a seven-event competition that the girls compete in while the decathlon is a 10-event competition for the boys.
Winners during Day 1 of the competition on the boys side were Greenfield’s Jack Laurie in the javelin (44.19 meters) and Frontier’s Julian Adams in the discus (37.05), and on the girls side, Mohawk Trail’s Zephyr Jetzon won the shot put (8.06).
In the boys 100, Laurie placed seventh (11.69 seconds), Frontier’s Adrien Pazmandy came in eighth (11.88), Greenfield’s Mason Youmell took 14th (12.04) and Frontier’s Garrett Dredge placed 24th (12.34).
Youmell took sixth in the boys 400 (53.17), Pazmandy placed seventh (53.22), Laurie came in 15th (56.0), Frontier’s Henry Pleasant came in 19th (57.81) and Mahar’s Daniel Finch took 22nd (58.09).
Youmell came in 12th in the boys triple jump (11.5 meters), Laurie placed 15th (11.35), Dredge placed 16th (11.22), Finch took 23rd (10.61) and Pazmandy came in 25th (10.6).
Pazmandy came in fifth in boys discus (29.58), Laurie took sixth (26.39), Pleasant took 12th (22.89), Mahar’s Coltin Fausett placed 17th (21.08) while Youmell took 24th (19.8).
Adams placed second in boys javelin (43.16). Pioneer’s Carter Berthiaume came in seventh (35.97), Dredge took 12th (31.88), Pleasant placed 15th (31.09), Youmell took 16th (30.92) and Pazmandy placed 19th (29.98).
In the girls 200 Pioneer’s Louise Flagollet placed seventh (28.03), Frontier’s Josie Fosnot came in eighth (28.08), Jetzon took 15th (28.85), Pioneer’s Emmanuelle Flagollet took 18th (28.99), Frontier’s Maddie Antes came in 20th (29.16) and Mohawk Trail’s Anna Whitaker placed 25th (29.64).

In the girls 100 Emmanuelle Flagollet placed third (16.50), Frontier’s Hannah Davis took fourth (16.81), Louise Flagollet came in ninth (17.67), Mahar’s Stellina Moore came in 17th (18.56), Frontier’s Olive Klaus placed 22nd (19.23), Fosnot took 23rd (19.32) and Mohawk Trail’s Heidi Helenek placed 24th (19.36).
Louise Flagollet walked away with a second place finish in the girls high jump (1.60), Emmanuelle Flagollet tied with Moore and Mahar’s Taylor Paluk for ninth (1.40), Pioneer’s Charley Harrington tied with Antes, Fosnot and Mahar’s Kathryn McGinnis for 16th (1.35) and Davis finished in 22nd (1.30).
Frontier’s Elsa Brown took eighth in girls shot put (7.30), Helenek placed 10th (6.99), Moore came in 12th (6.84), Whitaker took 14th (6.54) and Mohawk Trail’s Virginia Krezmien placed 25th (5.98).
The second and final day of the event is slated to take place Tuesday in South Deerfield.
