Bulletin board: JJ Bones helps Turners Falls Suburban basketball to weekend sweep

JJ Bones led all scorers with 22 points, including three 3-pointers, and was 10-for-15 from the free throw line to help Turners Falls get past Ludlow, 45-39, in a grades 5 and 6 Suburban League boys basketball game over the weekend in Turners Falls.

Cooper Hobbs chipped in with eight points for Turners, and Tyreek Rivera added seven points.

In other weekend action, Turners took down Ware, 51-38, thanks to 13 points, six rebounds and two blocks from Hunter Kelly. Bones added 11 points in the victory.

Deerfield results

Multiple Deerfield Academy athletic teams were in action over the weekend.

The DA girls hockey team played Lawrenceville twice and came away with 6-1 victories in each game. The Big Green boys hockey team fell to Salisbury, 8-5.

The DA boys squash team beat Phillips Exeter (5-2) and lost to Belmont Hill (5-2) while the girls squash team lost to Phillips Exeter (4-3). On the court, the Big Green boys basketball team fell to Williston (60-56) and on the wrestling mats, DA beat Wilbraham (48-20) but lost to Pomfret (36-34) and Hopkins (72-12).

Harlon Hickey walked away with a shutout in goal, stopping every shot he faced as the Franklin County Hockey Association’s 10U White squad beat the Junior Yellow Jackets 2-0 on Sunday at Collins Moylan. 

Shaye Tyler and Brantley Godfrey scored while Brody Suhl tallied an assist in the win.
