The Greenfield 9U tournament team the “Ducks” finished an impressive second place over the weekend at the Swanzey, N.H. Cal Ripken Invitational Tournament.
In another tough weekend of rain and inclement weather, the Ducks played through the shaved down and rainy schedule with the second-best record in the tournament to advance to the championship game on Monday night against the undefeated Keene 9U All-Stars. Greenfield held Keene to three runs through four innings, but Keene took advantage of some late game miscues and eventually captured a 10-0 win.
Greenfield's Reed Williams and Noah Marguet were top pitchers over the weekend with a combined 22 strikeouts. Charlie Tyler led the offense with five hits, including three doubles.
“This was the team’s first time playing together in games,” Greenfield manager Cody Kingsbury said. “They overcame the weather, condensed schedule pitching limitations and last-minute game start changes to make the championship. I’m super proud of these kids and can’t wait to see what the summer holds for them.”
