Sammi Suhl smacked two hits, and Descavich Plumbing & Heating captured the Greenfield Girls Softball League Ponytail Division championship on Thursday thanks to a 3-0 victory over Gilmore & Farrell Insurance at Murphy Park in Greenfield.

Esme Sautter and Alexis Berry each drove in a run for Descavich, which was paced in the pitching circle by a dominant 16-strikeout performance by Charlie Lovett.

Aurora Reynolds paced Gilmore & Farrell with a hit.

• In semifinal action from Wednesday, Gilmore & Farrell Insurance doubled up Greenfield Garden Cinemas, 10-5, to advance to the championship game.

Kamryn Beck doubled, driving in two runs, Hallie Williams had a single and two RBIs while Shaye Tyler and Elise LaPrade each contributed hits.

Samantha Rider had the only two hits for Garden Cinemas.

Junior Legion

Greenfield Post 81 8, East Longmeadow 1 — Aiden Shea tossed five innings with six strikeouts, and Bodie Burke struck out five after a pair of scoreless innings of relieft to lift Post 81 to a victory on Thursday.

Hunter Donahue and Conner Bergeron each had two hits for Greenfield, while Greg King smacked a two-run single to aid the cause. Post 81 (4-1) hosts Belchertown for a doubleheader at Vets Field on Saturday.

GMLB

Phil Brodeur struck out 11 in five innings, allowing just one hit, and Ben Shivone struck out the side with a scoreless sixth inning to lift Gilmore & Farrell to a 2-0 win in Game 1 of the Majors Division championship series on Thursday at Lunt Field.

Brodeur knocked in Shivone in the first inning to pace the offense, while Andrew Gardner and Carter Flagg also recorded hits.

Ryan Turner singled for the lone Maniatty hit of the night.

The two teams will play Game 2 of their best-of-three championship series Monday night at Lunt Field.

Denny’s Pantry 11, Pioneer Valley Tire 5 — Andrew Quintana and Vinnie Toothaker each pitched three innings, striking out 11 to lift fifth-seeded Denny’s to a AAA playoff win on Thursday.

EJ Provost roped two doubles in the win, while Toothaker (two singles), Mason Lovett (double, single) and Carson White (single) also paced the Pantry.

Pioneer Valley Tire’s Wyatt Wilkins had two hits, with teammates Colton Urkiel and Cody Castine also adding a hit apiece.

Ginger Cat Sealcoating 13, Gruber & Tripp 5 – Kydanie Rivera hit a triple and two singles, Zach Bensen singled four times, and Abrahm Walker had three singles to lift Ginger Cat to a AA semifinal playoff victory on Thursday.

Gruber was led by EJ Morley, who had a double and two singles. Phil Hannon singled and doubled while Joey O’Hara added two hits.

Golf

Roznoy cards ace at Northfield

Richard Roznoy sank the third hole-in-one of his career on Thursday.

Using a 3-wood at Northfield Golf Club, Roznoy drilled an ace on the 120-yard, seventh hole.

Timmons-Messer League

Jeff Seymour’s 36 was good enough for match medalist, while the low gross of 35 went to the team of Mike Stephens and Pete Blake during Wednesday’s Timmons-Messer League at Northfield Golf Club.

After a match of cards, Seymour and Trevor Blake took second with a 36. Nate Pecor and Dave McCarthy’s 25 was the low net after a match of cards, while Bret Bourman and Mike McGrath took second.

Pecor’s hole-in-one on No. 6 was closest to the pin, and Seymour was closest at No. 7 (7 feet, 2 inches).

Greenfield Elks League

Jonathon Moore and Doug Fontaine led the way at Week 8 of the Greenfield Elks Golf League at CCG on Wednesday, as the duo are atop the leaderboard with 92 points.

Bob Walker and Bob Wondoloski took second with 91 points, followed by two teams — Gary Noga-Randy Bernard and Jim Elwell-Pete Quintana — in a tie for third with 90.

Closest to the pin winners were Elwell at No. 2 (4-7) and Bill Erman at No. 5 (1-7).

Running

Northfield Summer Series

Isaac Bingham won the Northfield Summer Road Race Series for the third week in a row finishing the 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes, 9 seconds on Thursday.

Alex Scotera (21:29) came in second, followed by Paul Hake (21:36), Mike Bear (22:09) and Dylan Briewick (22:17). Marcy Cabanas (22:20) was sixth and the first woman to finish. Thirty-two runners and five walkers participated.

This is the 14th season of the road race series. The race takes place every Thursday starting and finishing at 105 Main Street in Northfield. Cost is $5 per runner with $10 max per family. Walkers are welcome and can choose a shorter distance. The race is a Northfield Recreation Commission event.
