The Northfield Recreation Commission Cougars won the Tri-County League softball championship against Vernon this past week, capping an undefeated season. 

Kendall Harrison pitched while Quinn Hall hit a home run in the championship game for the Cougars. Brooklyn Batty, Lily Bell, Liliana Bordas, Joslynn Brown, Johanna Butynski, Carson Dlugosz, Avalyn Hall, Mckenzie Harrison, Josephine Hescock, Lillian May, Olivia Peduzzi, Ariana Perkins, Annika Sadler, Bailey Sibley, Maaike van der Maat and Daisy Walsh rounded out the roster. 

Mt. Washington Road Race

The 64th Mt. Washington Road Race took place on Saturday, with Shelburne Falls’ Kayla Lampe placing fourth on the women’s side. Lampe won the race a year ago. 

Amherst’s Jenna Gigliotti placed second on the women’s side. 

Youth baseball

Pipione’s 7, St. Stan’s 4 — Spencer Towne and Travis Williams each had two hits while Dalton Towne drove in three for Pipione’s, who took the opening game of the Newt Guilbault championship series on Friday. 

Enmanual Quezada had two hits and two RBIs and Lucian Carlo struck out six and added two hits in the loss. 

Junior Legion

Post 81 Juniors 5, Westfield 4 — Conner Bergeron drove in two with a single in the seventh to walk it off for Post 81, leading to a victory at Vets Field Friday. 

Aiden Shea pitched the opening six innings before Bodie Burke came on in the seventh and earned the win on the mound.

Country Club of Greenfield held its Member Guest Championship on Saturday, with Andy Lesenski and Jake Willis winning with a score of 64. 

Justin McCloud and Cody Booska took second (65), Tom Herzig and Matt Matroni came in third (66) while Will Conant and Bryan Deguglielmo tied with the pairing of Brendan Fleming and Mitch Rhodes and Connor Piecuch and Michael Bechard for fourth (68). 

Michael Duclos and Jonathan Perron shot the low net (63) followed by Gary Blanchette and Tom Wienek (64), Michael Duclos Jr. and Tyler Perron (64), Chris Zukowski and Ryan Martin (64) and Christopher Shover and Tristan Ward (64). 

• Elizabeth Archer and Mike Archer tied with Ryan Blanchard and Nate Blanchard for first place with scores of 33 in a Friday Night Mixer at Country Club of Greenfield. 

Tom Bresciano and Jen Bresciano tied with Christine Kuzmeskus and Michael Ruggeri for the low net (33). 

Youth soccer

The Greenfield boys and girls high school soccer teams are hosting a series of youth soccer clinics this summer from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. from August 4-8. 

The clinics will be run by the Greenfield varsity coaches and players and will take place at the Greenfield High School varsity field. Players will receive instruction on passing, dribbling, cardio, body shape, defending, tactics, goalie work and finishing. The clinics are open to all boys and girls aged 6-13, of any skill level, across Franklin County. Cost of attendance is $100 for the whole week. A lunch break will be provided for players. Families are able to sign up for lunch to be provided by Greenfield Public Schools Food Services, which they can indicate when they register.

Greenfield United is also holding registration for the fall season. Registration is open for boys and girls aged 7-14 from Greenfield and the surrounding towns. Please note that if your player does not live or attend school in Greenfield, the club will need to submit a waiver for them to play with us. The club is introducing beginners clinics for players aged 5-7 who want a low stress environment to learn basic fundamentals without having to play in matches yet.

The club is searching for coaches and will not submit a team for an age group without two coaches dedicated to that team. If you're interested in coaching please reach out to Gia Westerman at Giacwesterman@gmail.com.

Adult softball 

Conway 21, Shelburne Falls 3 — Jenelle Wilkins singled, tripled and homered while Kendra Lagoy had four hits including a triple in Conway’s PV Women’s League win Friday. 

Cassie Harris knocked three hits including a double and Alexis Farrick singled and doubled in the loss.
