Bulletin Board: Kajka, Magic take down Defenders in summer softball action

Emily Kajka struck out seven and didn’t allow a hit in three innings work in the circle for the Magic, which scored 10 runs in the first to take down the Defenders, 16-1, in five innings during a Franklin County Summer Softball League Contest Wednesday at Murphy Park. 

Corinne Charlebois singled, doubled and drove in two, Gianna Percy drove in two with a double Ella Sasser doubled in a run while Samantha Suhl had two hits and an RBI in the win. 

Kennedy Unaitis singled and drove in a run while Liliana Bogert hit safely for the Defenders. 

Bombers 14, Menace 4 — Mia Shaw had three hits including a triple and drove in four, Sienna LaFlesh tallied three hits and knocked in a run while adding eight strikeouts in the circle, Lydia Buttrick singled, tripled and drove in a run and Jillian Lavalle tripled in the Bombers’ triumph Wednesday. 

Alison George finished with a pair of hits and RBIs, Amelia Rider knocked two hits, Rileyanne Tine doubled and drove in a run while Raine Wonsey struck out nine in the loss. 

Havoc 3, Flyers 2 — Chloe Cusson walked it off with an inside-the-park home run, Lexi Hawkins and Lindsey Hawkins each singled while Delynn Sprague drove in two with a double in the Havoc’s victory Wednesday. 

Samantha Cordio and Savannah Duncan singled, Ava Worden doubled and Grace Stevens struck out 13 for the Flyers. 

Fury 16, Wolfpack 11 — Maggie Tsipenyuk tripled, homered and drove in four, Autumn DiMare and Ari Adams both doubled in runs while Kaelynn Chabot and Ameliya Galbraith each tallied a hit and an RBI in the Fury’s victory Wednesday.

Kiely Kinchla singled, homered and drove in four, Bella Kimball tallied two hits while Celia Fox stole two bases in the loss. 

Baseball

Senior Legion

Monson 3, Greenfield Post 81 2 — Post 81 cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh after Hugh Cyhowski drove Ben Caron in with a sacrifice fly but the rally fell short, as Greenfield fell at Vets Field Wednesday. 

Arthur Fitzpatrick pitched the first five innings for Post 81, striking out five and scattering four hits. Caleb Thomas pitched the final two innings, striking out two and not allowing a hit. Ethan Mauthe singled twice while Caron added a base hit in the defeat. 

Boys basketball

DRIVE League

Boys varsity action of the DRIVE League continued on Tuesday at Greenfield High School, with Smith Voc opening the night with a 69-46 win over Turners. Davian Bala scored 11 points for the Thunder. 

In the second game of the night, Mohawk Trail defeated Greenfield, 51-46, behind eight points from Matt Sprague. Grayson Thomas tossed in 25 points and Gavin Arsenault added eight points for the Green Wave. 

After, Narragansett took down Hampshire, 62-46, behind 23 points from Max Kauffman and 11 points from Tom Richards. Brody Havelock led the Raiders with 14 points. 

To close out the night, Rowan Modestow put up 31 points and Max Millette added 13 points in Frontier’s 72-32 victory over Hadley. Chace Earle finished with 10 points and Harry West scored nine points in the loss. 

Adult softball

Greenfield coed

Liberty Tax Sharks 23, Adam and Eve 8 — Trevor Thomas had four hits including two home runs and drove in three in the Sharks’ victory Wednesday. 

Jermey Thomas doubled twice, singled and drove in four, Matt Gibson doubled and homered while Cody Willor doubled, homered and drove in two in the winning effort. 

Estebon Abarua had three hits including a home run and two RBIs while Vinny Renaud and Kenny Lagamoniere each doubled in the loss. 

Golf

K of C League

Kyle Demers (plus-10), Matt Smith (plus-9) and Phil Cloutier (plus-8) had the top scores in the Knights of Columbus League at Thomas Memorial on Wednesday. 

Bob Wondoloski won closest to the pin on No. 7 while Ned Nichols won it on No. 9. Darren Lenois, Mike Waterman and Frank Penny won skins while Kyle Norwood (37) and Rod Herzig (38) had the low gross scores. 

CFC Women’s League

Michelle Lawler and Brooke Fernandez tied for first with scores of plus-3 in the Crumpin-Fox Club Women’s League this past week. 

Karen Conley placed second (plus-2) while Betsy Cushing, Michelle Burch and Barb Baldwin tied for third (plus-1). Ellen Bitzer won closest to the pin on No. 3 (39 feet, one inch) and Sam Smith won on No. 9 (47 feet, five inches).
